Fakta RDJ

1.      Selain aktor, om Downey juga seorang penyanyi. Ia merilis album berjudul The Futurist pada tahun 2004. Tapi sayangnya hanya terjual 16.000 eksemplar di minggu pertama. (lagu-lagunya lumayan, soalnya berkarakter banget sih…)

2.      Pernah berpacaran dengan Sarah Jessica Parker selama 7 tahun, lalu kandas karena lelaki berumur 48 tahun ini terlibat penyalahgunaan narkoba dan alkohol. (mereka mulai pacaran di film “Firstborn” tahun 1984.

3.      Menjadi pecandu narkoba sejak berumur 8 tahun. Parahnya, om Downey Sr. (ayahnya) yang memperkenalkan om Downey dengan obat terlarang. Karena ayahnya juga seorang pecandu waktu itu. (untungnya sekarang om Downey udah berubah)

4.      Ingin ‘Mandarin’ menjadi musuhnya sejak Iron Man pertama. Om Downey bahkan sempat memohon pada presiden Marvel, Kevin Feige agar menjadikan Mandarin musuh bebuyutannya di film pertama Iron Man, namun Feige ingin menunggu waktu yang tepat untuk memperkenalkan karakter legendaris ini. (untung di Iron Man 3 kenginannya tercapai)

5.      Yakin akan menang Oscar. Ia menjelaskan hanya menunggu waktu. "Aku tahu itu akan terjadi. Bahkan jika saya tidak mendapatkannya, mereka harus memberi saya satu piala ketika saya sudah tua nanti,” ujarnya. (meski terlihat memaksa, tapi om Downey emang pantes kok dapet Oscar)

6.      Bisa mengikat popok, dalam wawancara GQ bersama istrinya, Susan Downey, perempuan berusia 40 tahun ini memuji keterampilan suaminya dalam hal membungkus popok.  (pengen dong jadi anak om Downey, hehe)

7.      Bergaya nyentrik dan nyeleneh. Ia kerap tampil di acara formal dengan balutan jas merek ternama namun sering dikombinasikan dengan sepatu keds atau sneakers kesayanganya. (tapi om Downey tetep keren kok, I Love You so much..)

8.      Robert Downey, Jr adalah Salah Seorang Superhero Tertua di Dunia. (wow, keren gak sih?) Film superhero biasanya didominasi oleh aktor muda seperti Chris Evans, Andrew Garfield dan Chris Hemsworth. Dan di tahun 2013 om Downey baru saja berusia 48 tahun, yang membuat ia menjadi salah seorang aktor tertua yang pernah berperan menjadi superhero. (usia itu bukan penghambat kemampuan untuk memerangi kejahatan, go Downey go!)

9.      Sebelum om Downey Jr menempati posisi Iron Man, aktor Tom Cruise dan Nicolas Cage sempat berminat menjadi sosok Iron Man di Iron Man 1. (tapi mereka gak salah milih om Downey, buktinya karakter Tony Stark melekat banget ama dia)

10.  Di “The Avengers” ada dialog ketika Iron Man pingsan seusai mengantarkan nuklir ke angkasa dan terjatuh. Seharusnya ketika Iron Man terbangun usai ‘dibentak’ Hulk, ia akan berkata “what’s next?”. Namun om Downey merasa dialog tersebut tidak lucu, maka ia menambahkan sendiri dialog ‘mengajak semua superhero ke restoran Shawarma (kebab)’. Syuting adegan dan dialog tersebut dilakukan dan ditambahkan usai The Avengers dirilis di Hollywood. (om Downey multitalented banget sih…)

11.  Mobil yang digunakan om Downey (Tony Stark) dalam adegan terakhir “The Avengers”, dimana ia pergi bersama Bruce Banner, merupakan mobil hybrid NSX Acura yang baru akan rilis di 2015. Demi The Avengers, perusahaan pembuat mobil itu mau memodifikasi satu mobil lama agar bisa dipakai sebagai kendaraan khas Tony Stark yang flamboyan. (waw, pingin dong satu..)

12.  Film “Iron Man 3” adalah kelima kalinya om Downey berperan sebagai Iron Man. Termasuk perannya di “The Avengers” dan “The Incredible Hulk”. Karena itu, om Downey berada diposisi yang sama dengan Samuel L. Jackson dan Hugh Jackman sebagai aktor yang paling banyak memerankan sebagai tokoh komik. Tetapi Hugh Jackman dipastikan akan unggul lagi karena film "Wolverine". (kalau om Downey diganti dari Iron Man, aku gak ngefans lagi film itu. Aku jahat ya? Soalnya aku pengen om Downey)

13.  Produksi film “Iron Man 3” sempat tertunda karena om Downey mengalami cedera pergelangan kaki. (untung sekarang udah sembuh ya)

14.  Om Downey sendiri loh yang merekomendasikan Shane Black untuk menjadi sutradara film ketiga “Iron Man”. Sebelumnya mereka pernah bekerja sama untuk film “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”. (udah nonton belum? Filmnya kocak abis loh)

15.  Pada awal film “Iron Man 3” kita bisa melihat om Downey (Tony Stark) berlatih dengan boneka kayu saat akan menguji Mark 42. Hal ini dilatihnya selama beberapa tahun terakhir dan digunakan juga di film Sherlock Holmes, dimana ia memerankan detektif handal itu. Dan ia juga akan mengikuti tes untuk mendapatkan Sabuk Hitamnya dalam waktu dekat. (ayo om Downey, pasti bisa)

16.  Di usia 10 tahun, RDJ pernah belajar balet waktu tinggal di London

17.  His father, Robert Downey Sr. was born as “Robert Elias” but changed his surname to “Downey” (after his stepfather James Downey).

18.  Robert Jr. and his older sister grew up in Greenwich Village and was born in Manhattan.

19.  His father was a drug addict and so, Robert Jr. also used drugs at the age of six.

20.  He did his first film at the age of 5, by working in his father’s films.

21.  His parents divorced in 1978 (when he was 13 years old).

22.  In 2010, he opened a production company called “Team Downey” with his wife Susan.

23.  He had a cameo role in the 2008 movie “The Incredible Hunk” as Iron Man / Tony Stark.

24.  In the same year, he was flashed in a video game titled “Iron Man” for his role as Tony Stark.

25.  He has been into jail several times for drug intake like marijuana.

26.  RDJ was born to Robert Sr. and Ellie Downey in New York City on 4 April, 1965, the younger of two children.

27.  Robert Sr. was an actor, writer, producer, cinematographer, and director of underground films and Junior grew up taking parts in his father's films. His first role was as a five- year-old playing a puppy in his father's 1970 film, Pound.

28.  Robert got his big break at age 20 when he joined the acclaimed Saturday Night Live sketch comedy team. But his tenure was short-lived. He was fired due to bad audience ratings a year later. Being a young, good-looking, talented actor during the mid-80s meant that Brat Pack status was not far behind and RDJ landed a role in John Hughes' Weird Science and opposite Brat Pack queen Molly Ringwald in The Pick-Up Artist in 1987.

29.  His acclaimed performance as a drug addicted rich boy in Less Than Zero (based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel) proved prescient when Robert himself was drawn into a life of drug abuse, just as his career was on the ascendency.

30.  RDJ's first Academy Award nomination came from his portrayal of film legend Charlie Chaplin in Richard Attenborough's 1992 biopic Chaplin.

31.  He kept much of the authentic vintage clothing he wore in the movie.

32.  It's a role that the star prepared for with a method actor's determination, learning to play the piano and tennis, as well as getting a personal coach to help him attain Chaplin's iconic posture and manner of walking.

33.  His substance abuse problems continued throughout the late 90s and early 2000s resulting in several arrests and stints at rehab facilities. During one court appearance on drug charges, Robert explained his addiction to the judge, ""It's like I have a loaded gun in my mouth and my finger's on the trigger, and I like the taste of the gunmetal."

34.  Some of the offences he committed while under the influence include firing a Magnum handgun while speeding down Sunset Boulevard, breaking into a neighbour's home and falling asleep in their bed, and failing to comply to drug testing on numerous occasions.

35.  Robert was sentenced to three years at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison but only spent one year singing the prison blues so that he could get back to making movies, a ruling that caused a stir.

36.  A week after his release, RDJ was cast as Larry Paul in the hit legal series Ally McBeal, playing a love interest for Ally. His introduction to the show during its fourth season proved a massive hit with viewers, with ratings soaring and Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for its newest addition.

37.  But the party soon came to an end, with Robert's demon's resurfacing. He was again arrested in 2000 for possession of cocaine and Valium, and was fired from Ally McBeal . The show was never the same without him.

38.  Despite his regular brushes with the law, Robert was a hot Hollywood ticket, signing up as the lead in America's Sweethearts and as Hamlet in Mel Gibson's intended stage production. After another arrest while on parole in 2001, these jobs disappeared, with Mel having to scrap his Hamlet plans altogether.

39.  During this ordeal, Robert's marriage to actress Deborah Falconer hit the rocks and they were divorced in 2004 after a 12-year marriage. They married after dating for just 42 days.

40.  Together he and Deborah share a son, Indio Falconer Downey, who followed in the family's dramatic footsteps and played the nine-year-old version of his dad's character in the noir movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

41.  During the 80s, RDJ spent eight years living with Sarah Jessica Parker.

42.  He met his second wife Susan on the set of Gothika. She was one of the movie's producers.

43.  He was let out of rehab for one day to shoot the Elton John video "I Want Love".

44.  He released an album of self-penned songs, The Futurist, in 2004. The CD also included his cover of the Charlie Chaplin song "Smile".

45.  He was signed by a publisher in 2006 to write a tell-all book about his former life as a hell-raiser, but he backed out of the project.

46.  The guy wears heels! At just 1.74m, RDJ is tiny according to Hollywood leading man standards. To get over this 'little problem', Robert has been wearing lifts in his shoes for roles such as Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes - at the request of the directors.

47.  When asked on whom his controversial role in Tropic Thunder was based (in which he played a narcissistic Australian actor who undergoes plastic surgery in order to appear African-American), Robert replied, "Sadly, my sorry-ass self."

48.  Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau has said that Robert's role as Tony Stark is to Iron Man what Johnny Depp's captain Jack Sparrow was to The Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
